Making travel safer and more efficient are primary objectives for transportation engineers and planners. Eastgate is constantly looking for ways to improve our local roads. To make the system better, a lot of effort goes into data collection and analysis along with project selection and funding. The data collection and analysis is used to find deficient areas of the transportation network.

May 2016 - - Distracted driving can be used as a catch-all term to describe a situation in which the operator of a vehicle is not paying full attention to not only their surroundings, but their own actions as well. Such an activity increases the risk of crashes, especially roadway departures and intersection crashes.

Each year the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments collects crash data from the Ohio Department of Public Safety to aid in evaluating the safety of our region’s roadways. Eastgate works with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the County Engineers to verify and map the location of crashes and analyze current trends in the data.

2012 Regional Safety Plan

According to the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS), 1,080 people were killed in vehicle related accidents in Ohio in the year 2010. In Mahoning County there were 5,949 crashes, causing 2,607 injuries and 22 fatalities. In Trumbull County there were 4,563 crashes, 1,816 injuries and 32 fatalities.
