(Youngstown, Monday, November 4, 2019) – Mindy Bankey, the Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources presented a $2 million check to the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments for the Mahoning River Corridor Restoration Plan (a comprehensive plan for the entire River) and to continue removing dams along the River.

The funding made available through the Governor’s budget not only helps to study the area along the river but will also continue the momentum in securing funding to remove the dams along the river.

Senator Michael Rulli and Senator Sean O’Brien also attended the check presentation. Both Senator’s took a vital role in supporting this effort and successfully securing the funding to help clean the river.

According to Jim Kinnick, Eastgate’s Executive Director, “This funding will help us to continue our forward momentum in securing a free-flowing river which is vital to the Valley. We are appreciative of the support from the State and thankful that they support the possibilities available along the banks of the Mahoning!”
