Transition to Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
All entities looking to apply for federal funds must have a UEI after April 1. If you have not completed that process yet, you will need to do that before your application can be accepted in grants.gov
- If you want to learn more about the transition from the DUNS number to the Unique Entity ID (UEI), please visit the SAM.gov page here.
- If you want to understand how Grants.gov is handling the transition and access the resources available there, please visit the Grants.gov page here.
How Does the UEI (SAM) Get Assigned?
The UEI (SAM) is assigned automatically to all active and inactive SAM.gov registered entities. This information is displayed on SAM.gov. The DUNS Number remains authoritative until April 2022.
- If your entity is not registered, but you still need a Unique Entity ID (SAM) (e.g., for subcontractors or sub-awardees), go to SAM.gov and select Get Started.
- If you wish to register your entity, you can get a Unique Entity ID (SAM) as part of your registration. You should also go to SAM.gov and select Get Started.
