Up to $10 million is available for Abandon Mine Lands (AMLER) Grants

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Mineral Resources Management (DMRM) is  currently seeking proposals to again sub-grant AMLER funds received from the federal Office of Surface mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE). AMLER program funds are used for the reclamation of AML sites that were mined for coal prior to 1977. Abandoned mine lands (AML) are sites that were mined for coal prior to 1977. Project sites eligible include unreclaimed, previously reclaimed, or lands adjacent to abandoned coal mine lands or polluted waters or communities impacted by historic coal production. Projects must provide for economic growth and/or community development and follow the guidelines set forth in the OSMRE's AMLER Guidance Document.

Important Information

  • Up to $10 million total is available for grants
  • Letter of Intent are due by July 14th, 2023 toAMLER@dnr.ohio.gov.
  • Completed applications must be emailed to AMLER@dnr.ohio.gov by September 15th, 2023.
  • There is no cap on funding requests
  • Anticipated start date for projects is March 2024.
  • Successful applicants will have up to 3 years to complete the AMLER funded portion of the project.
