District Six NRAC Recommends over $1.8 million in Clean Ohio Greenspace Conservation projects to the Ohio Public Works Commission

On October 22nd, 2025 the District Six Natural Resource Assistance Council (NRAC) met and selected three projects, totaling a little over $1.8 million, for funding to the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC). The three recommended projects included: 

Mill Creek MetroParks Egypt Swamp Preserve Improvements:

  •  Improves 76.51 acres of land previously acquired through Clean Ohio in 2013.
  • Includes:
    - Installation of aggregate parking lot.
    - Trail Improvements.
    - Education signage and wayfinding.
  • Ecological restoration via invasive species mgmt., wetland and floodplain restoration, and native species plantings.

Trumbull County MetroParks Braceville Nature Preserve Extension Phase III
  • Acquires 261 acres (6 parcels) in Braceville Twp.
  • Expands upon the existing 145-acre Braceville Nature Preserve
  • Protects ~2,655 linear ft. of Mahoning River’s riparian corridor
  • Protects 13, high Category 3 wetlands
  • Includes mature forest
  • Floodplain and oxbow habitat preservation
  •  Acquisition and protection strategy identified in the Mahoning River-Chocolate Run 9- Element Nonpoint Source Implementation Strategy Plan
Western Reserve Land Conservancy- Coalburg Lake
  • Acquires 338 acres (6 parcels) in Hubbard Twp.
  • Includes a 50-acre lake
  • DOES NOT include the dam and area below the dam
  • Protects 18 stream channels:
    - 12,000 linear feet of headwater streams
    - 8,000 linear feet of Little Yankee Run.
  • Protects 9 Category 3 wetlands
  • Protects floodplain forest
