Top Regional Priority Receives Federal Investment

The Economic Development Administration (EDA) provided $2 million in funds to Youngstown State University for the creation of the Mahoning Valley Innovation and Commercialization Center. Earlier this year, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) also awarded $1 million dollars for the project. The Center is the result of several years of community involvement and engagement and is seen by ARC and EDA as a strategic investment in the region’s workforce, particularly those affected by the decline in coal-related industries. The Center is also the top economic development priority of the region according to the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), that is a framework for the region’s growth and prosperity.
