Virtual Open House for East Park Hike & Bike Trail

Sep 08, 2021

Mill Creek Metroparks is inviting members of the public to participate in a virtual open house to learn more about the proposed project to construct the East Park Hike & Bike Trail Phase II. The open house will begin Saturday, September 18, and end Monday, October 18.

The proposed trail is a continuation of an enhancement project previously constructed by the Metroparks to increase safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists as they travel through the East Park Corridor.

It is the final connection to complete a 7+ mile continuous trail system dedicated to pedestrian and bicyclist traffic that extends from US-224 in Boardman to Old Furnace Road in the City of Youngstown. Phase I of the project was constructed in 2019 as part of an intersection improvement project completed by the City of Youngstown and Mill Creek Metroparks.

The project is currently in the planning and engineering phase, with construction planned for the spring of 2022.

A significant portion (80%) of the project funding will be provided by ODOT through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funds ($136,000).

To ensure this project is viable, Mill Creek Metroparks is seeking input from community stakeholders regarding the proposed project and the social, environmental, and economic impacts.

More information on the project can be found here.

The Metroparks ask that community members visit the site to learn more about the project, the potential impacts, and submit questions or comments.
