City of Youngstown and Eastgate Celebrate SMART2 Network Ribbon Cutting

Monday, November 15, 2021, the City of Youngstown and Eastgate held a ribbon cutting for Phase 1 of the SMART2 Network improvements on Fifth Avenue in Youngstown, and a groundbreaking for Phase 2.

Congressman Tim Ryan, Congressman Bill Johnson, City Councilman Julius Oliver, Mayor Tito Brown, YSU President Jim Tressel and Eastgate Executive Director Jim Kinnick spoke at the event, highlighting the spirit of collaboration to support the SMART2 Network.

The ribbon cutting celebrated the completed improvements to Fifth Ave and the coalition of support for the continued revitalization of the streets of Youngstown, interconnecting the University and the city.

Phase 2 will consist of similar improvements to Front, Street, Federal Street, Commerce Street, Phelps Street, Rayen Avenue and Park Avenue.

Phase 3, estimated to begin in the Spring of 2023, will see the implementation of smart autonomous shuttles.
